I’m not gonna lie, I really miss being on honeymoon. It’s good to be back at work, but let’s face it, reality is no picnic (or week-long vacation on a lake either, for that matter).

I’m still recovering from whatever virus I have had in my system for nearly a month now, and this is really my first week back to training. Boy have I missed it. Sometimes you don’t notice how much you miss something until you get it back and realize what a difference it makes. Last night I had a swim and the sheer novelty of it made the set go by so quickly that it left me wishing for more. Today I have a run, which could very likely be a rude awakening after so many weeks of not running. Swimming hardly seems to leave my body when I stop, but getting back to running usually feels so WRONG and unnatural after a too-long break.

GB started grad school this week so that is another major transition in our routine. The dogs are not really sure what to make of us both being up at 5am and I’m sure they miss having GB around all day. I’m a little envious because I don’t get to wear jeans and go to class, but ultimately I’m not ready to go back to school yet and I’m happy in my job.

I am happy to report that the sumac leaves are still green. I am holding Fall off with all my might. It’s sad to get up in the morning and see that it’s still dark out. GB runs around the house saying annoying things like “I’m so excited for Fall!” and “I can’t wait for the SNOW!”. I regret that we did not include something in our vows about not mentioning snow or Fall until at least the middle of November. Winter people make me crazy.

BUT….all these seasonal changes also mean football. And yesterday we had the devil himself installed in our house: Cable TV. With a promotional 4-months of NFL Sunday Ticket. And DVR. Apparently this means we can put whatever we’re watching on hold for however long we like and not miss a single moment. Too bad there’s no DVR for life(!). Imagine the possibilities! Your baby is growing up, you wonder where the years went and you miss your old, unattached life. So you press pause, book a plane ticket, go somewhere exotic, live it up, come back home, press play, and you haven’t missed a thing. Or you get a flat tire in a race. You press pause, change the tire, get back on your bike, and you’re in the same place you started in when you got the flat. No lost time. Amazing.

Anyway, the point is that GB and I may have just sacrificed the next few months of our social life to a small box and a family fantasy football league. Not good, folks. At least I’ll have something to watch this winter while I’m on my trainer!

Thank you all for your kind comments and congratulations. It’s great to be back in the blogosphere.

Hey NESSSSS! Welcome back to blogland, seriously! I have missed your smiling face and smart ass comments. You and GB look SO happy and amazing – but I already told you that – so sorry that you are in the “NON honeymoon” back to reality phase, it stinks! 🙂 Jen H.
